The table below summarizes the most important new features and enhancements available in IBM® Lotus® Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing (Sametime®) 6.5.1.
|
Feature or Enhancement
|
Description
|
|
Enhanced LDAP directory searching capabilities
|
Administrators can write Java classes to customize the logic by
which Sametime conducts LDAP directory searches. These Java
classes can control the manner in which Sametime searches the
LDAP directory for user and group names and also control the
formatting of user names returned from LDAP searches.
|
|
Directory mapping
|
The directory mapping feature enables the Sametime server to
accept an authentication token that was created from an LDAP
directory that is different than the LDAP directory accessed by the
Sametime server. This capability ensures that Sametime features,
such as Sametime Links, can operate on portal servers when the
portal server and the Sametime server access different LDAP directories.
|
|
Forcing screen sharing to use 8-bit color
|
An administrator can enable this feature to improve the screen
sharing performance in Sametime meetings. This feature ensures
that all applications that are shared in the screen sharing tool are
shared at the 8-bit color depth. The 8-bit color images captured by
the screen sharing tool require less data than 16 bit or 32 bit color
images. Because the 8-bit images contain less data, they consume
less network bandwidth and also can be processed faster by the
users' computers.
|
|
Reverse proxy support
|
The Sametime 6.5.1 server can be deployed behind a reverse
proxy server. End users can connect to the Sametime server
through the reverse proxy server to participate in any type of
Sametime meeting activity with the exception of interactive
audio/video.
|
|
Netegrity SiteMinder token support
|
Sametime 6.5.1 provides support for SiteMinder authentication
tokens.
|
|
Chat client filtering
|
The administrator can configure the server to reject connection
attempts from chat clients from previous Sametime releases.
For example, the administrator can prevent Sametime 2.0, 2.5,
3.0 or 3.1 clients from connecting to the server. The administrator
may want to prevent these clients from connecting because
these clients have less stringent security mechanisms than
the Sametime 6.5.1 chat clients.
|
|
Security updates
|
Security updates are provided to support encryption of the buddy
lists, privacy lists, and presence status information that is
transmitted from the server to the clients. Announcements sent
from Sametime Connect clients can also be encrypted.
|
|
Name change and release number sequence
|
The previous release of this product was named "Sametime 3.1."
For this release, the product is renamed to "IBM Lotus Instant
Messaging and Web Conferencing 6.5.1."
In all product documentation (including these release notes), all
references to the product name have not been changed.
Consider the name "Sametime" to be synonymous with "IBM
Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing" when reading
the product documentation.
The release number is increased from 3.1 to 6.5.1 to ensure that
the release number is consistent with the release number of the
Domino server with which this product is designed to work. The
IBM Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing 6.5.1 server
installs on and uses the directory, replication, and security features
of a Domino 6.5.1 server.

Feature or Enhancement

Description
|
|
Do not disturb feature available from the Meeting Room client
|
Meeting Room client users can set their online status to do
not disturb. This capability was available only in the Sametime
Connect client in previous Sametime releases.
|
|
Notes calendaring and scheduling enhancements
|
If a Sametime server is integrated with the Lotus Domino
calendaring and scheduling capabilities, new features are
provided to enhance the end user experience. When
scheduling a Sametime meeting through the calendaring and
scheduling features of a Lotus Notes client, users can:
- Create Sametime meeting attendee lists and add and
remove names from this list.
- Users can check an "Only the invitees can attend" option
when creating a meeting invitation list and specify a
meeting password. Only the users in the meeting attendee
can use this password to attend the meeting.
|
|
Selecting the default login status for Sametime Connect
|
End users can select a default log-in status (such as "I am active"
or "I am away") for their Sametime Connect clients. This log-in status
to other online members of the Sametime community at the time
the user starts the Sametime Connect client.
This feature must be implemented with the Sametime toolkit.
|
|
Setting the default location of chat windows
|
End users can control the default location on a screen in
which a chat windows pop up when the user participates in a
chat session. End users can also control the size the chat
window will have when it pops up on the screen.
The administrator must enable this feature before it is
available for end users.
